What is CBD and is it healthy?

"Many misunderstand CBD for cannabis. CBD is a cannabidiol extracted from hemp. Actual Cannabis contians THC which gives the person the negative effects and "high". At Enter The Dragon CBD, all of our products contain 0.0% THC."

CBD has been used to treat pain as long ago as 2900 B.C.

Recently, scientists have found that certain components of marijuana, including CBD, have a number of effects.

The human body contains a special system called the endocannabinoid system (ECS), which is involved in regulating various functions including sleep, diet, pain and immune response (3Trusted Source).

The body produces endocannabinoids, neurotransmitters that bind to cannabinoid receptors in your nervous system.

Studies have shown that CBD can help reduce chronic pain by affecting the activity of the endocannabinoid receptor, reducing inflammation and interacting with neurotransmitters (4Trusted Source).

For example, one study of mice found that CBD injections reduced pain response to surgery, and other studies in mice found that oral CBD treatment significantly reduced nerve pain and inflammation (5Trusted Source, 6Trusted Source).

Several human studies have found that a combination of CBD and THC is effective in treating pain associated with multiple sclerosis and arthritis.

Oral spray called Sativex, a combination of THC and CBD, was approved in many countries to treat the pain associated with multiple sclerosis.

One study of 47 people with multiple sclerosis examined the effects of taking Sativex for one month. Participants observed improvements in pain, mobility, and muscle tone. However, the study did not include any control group and placebo effects could not be ruled out.

One study found that CBD significantly improved pain during movement, rest pain and sleep quality in 58 people with rheumatoid arthritis.

2. It can reduce anxiety and depression
Anxiety and depression are common mental health problems that can have serious consequences for health and well-being.

According to the World Health Organization, stress is the only contributor to the global disability, and anxiety disorders are ranked sixth (9).

Anxiety and depression are often treated with antiretroviral drugs, which can cause many side effects including drowsiness, nausea, insomnia, sexual dysfunction and headaches (10Trusted Source).

In addition, drugs such as benzodiazepines can be addictive and can lead to drug abuse (11Trusted Source).

CBD oil has shown promise as a treatment for depression and anxiety, leading many people living with these problems to become interested in this natural alternative.

In one Brazilian study, 57 men received oral CBD or placebo 90 minutes before performing a public speaking simulation test. The researchers found that a 300-mg CBD dose was very helpful in significantly reducing anxiety during the trial.

CBD oil is also used to safely treat insomnia and anxiety in children with post-traumatic stress disorder.
CBD also showed antidepressant-like effects in several animal studies.

These qualities are linked to CBD's ability to act on receptors in the brain for serotonin, a neurotransmitter that regulates mood and social behavior.

3. Can Reduce Cancer-Related Symptoms
CBD can help reduce cancer-related symptoms and side effects associated with cancer treatment, such as nausea, vomiting, and pain.

One study looked at the effects of CBD and THC in 177 people with cancer-related pain who did not find relief from pain medication.

Those who were treated with extracts containing both compounds experienced a significant reduction in pain compared with those who received only THC extract.

CBD can also help reduce nausea and vomiting, which is one of the most common chemical-related side effects in cancer patients.

Although there are drugs that help with these depressive symptoms, they sometimes do not work, leading some people to seek alternatives.

A study of 16 people undergoing chemotherapy found that the combination of individual CBD and THC-administered oral spray reduced nausea associated with chemotherapy and vomiting better than conventional treatment alone (18Trusted Source).

Other tube-test and animal studies have shown that CBD may have anticancer properties. For example, one test-tube study found that concentrated CBD induced cell death in human breast cancer cells (19Trusted Source).

Some studies have shown that CBD inhibited the spread of breast cancer cells in mice (20Trusted Source).

However, these are tube and animal test studies, so they can only suggest what might work for humans. Many studies are needed for people to draw conclusions.

4. May Reduce Acne
Acne is a common skin condition that affects more than 9% of people.

It is thought to be caused by a number of factors, including genetics, bacteria, primary inflammation and excessive production of sebum, an oily fluid made by acne glands in the skin.

According to a recent scientific study, CBD oil may be helpful in treating acne due to its anti-inflammatory properties and ability to reduce sebum production.

Another test-tube study found that CBD oil prevented sebaceous gland cells from transmitting excess sebum, performing anti-inflammatory actions and inhibiting the formation of "pro-acne" agents.
